Was Kathy nervous about tonight? Pfft, of course not. Don't be silly! Kathy was totally not a ball of anxiety over Dante and Barry meeting! Why would she be? It was just the first time her beloved boyfriend and her oldest school friend were going to be introduced. And decide if they liked each other. Not that either were weirdly touchy about things, either!

Thank god Anders and Barry were old friends or she might have had a complete meltdown at some point.

But now dinner was almost done cooking - they were having bulgolgi and it was delicious, thank you very much - and she was wearing something cute and pretty and everything was going to be fine.

Now just to practice the little introduction speech she'd already memorized...

Which was a totally fine and normal thing to do!

Kathy's whole face was a mask of horror as she watched the interplay with them.

"Wh-what? Wait, no--!" Kathy tried to wave her arms to bring their attention to her and to reset this whole meeting.

It was the flailing arms that did. Barry cracked and began laughing. "Sorry, man, I couldn't hold it in any longer," he said going to Dante for a handshake.

Dante laughed, shook Barry's hand, fistbumped him, and then yanked him in for a bro-hug. "Nah, I'm right there," he said. "Good to see you again, man."

Whoa! Okay. They were hugging. It's cool. It's cool. Barry did his best back bro-hug-thump thing.

"Good to see you, too," he replied and gave Kathy an apologetic look. "Sorry Kathy! We decided to pre-empt the crazy plan you had to make us meet nicely."

BETRAYAL!

She was just looking back and forth between the two of them, somewhere between grateful and appalled.

"You sons of bitches," she gasped. "You were playing me?"

Dante laughed again as he pulled back, grinning at her, unrepentant.

"I knew you were gonna be fucking weird about this," he said, "So I went to meet Barry at Dite's like a month ago."

"See? Really he was looking out for your mental health," Barry reasoned. "After we mess with you of course."

"You both suck," Kathy sputters. "A month ago? Dante, I'm going to kick you so very hard."

Dante grinned at her, stepping aside so Barry could get in. "Aw, c'mon," he said. "Me and Barry bonded."

"No kicking the boyfriend," Barry warned Kathy. "We're friends now and isn't that you wanted, anyway? Besides if you kick him-"

He held up what appeared to be a briefcase that he was holding in his other hand.

"-No gifts for you."

"You're lucky I'm selfish," Kathy said, glaring at him. "Wouldn't even hurt him, anyway."

She sighed and shook her head, hands on her hips.

"So, just to be clear, you've both been planning this for a month?"

"Planning's a big word," Dante said, grinning. "More like 'not said anything'."

“And see the look on your face when you realized we were messing with you,” Barry teased. “I did not expect the-“

And that’s when Barry started imitating Kathy’s arm flail.

And waited to be kicked.

Kathy was definitely darting forward to kick him in the shin. He deserved it, dammit.

They both did.

"You are both terrible people and I don't deserve this," she informed them both.

"Ow! Fuck! Shit!" Barry said rubbing his shin. "Is that anyway to treat your Q? I mean-"

He laughed.

"Ah. Fuck it, I had it coming," he admitted. "What smells so good?"

Dante laughed, and jabbed his thumb towards the dining room door. "Kat's making her badass bulgogi," he said. "Patent pending."

"Not that either of you deserve any of it," Kathy sniffs. "But yeah. It's everybody make your own bibimbap bowl tonight, complete with aforementioned badass bulgolgi, homemade kimchi, and braised eggs."

...Not that she had gone over the top for this not-so-very-important-meeting or anything, guys.

"Okay. I'm sorry," Barry said sincerely. "I get it. You worked hard on this and we kind of ruined it for you. But holy shit, your man and I get along. Isn't that what's important."

And he held up the bag of J'GOB. "And I brought you strawberry desserts like you told me too."

"You hear that?" Dante said, grinning as he went on ahead towards the dining room. "I'm your man."

"With strawberry desserts, he means that literally," Kathy said, shaking her head and sighing before it turns into a grin. "You have a surprising amount of power in your hand while you're holding that bag."

Okay. You don't throw something out like that without Barry needing to test this type of situation, Kathy.

"Hey Dante? In my culture you can only eat desserts if your shirtless. That okay?"

He gave Kathy a smirk. "That's just for you," he whispered to her.

Not that she hadn't seen him shirtless of course.

Dante snickered. "That's what you're using your power for?" he teased, already stripping out of his shirt. "Fuck, man, I do that for free."

Shirtlessness came cheap when you were as shameless as Dante was, and didn't mind flashing the supernatural (if currently unlit) brand on your back to near strangers.

"We don't argue with guests in this house," Kathy said serenely, as if she hadn't just kicked said guest.

Look, seeing a thousand times or not, Dante's bare chest was a sight to behold.

"Now Barry gets dinner and a show." She leans over to press a perfectly chaste and respectable kiss on Dante's cheek before heading into the kitchen to start bringing bowls of banchan out to set on the table.

"Well if it's that kind of show, I can go into the other room while you guys bang it out," Barry joked. "I don't need to be here for the main event."

Just not on the table please. He still has issues with what Rikky and Reno did in the warehouse ages ago.

Dante snickered. "I can keep it in my pants for dinner," he promised.

Not the best time to swat Kathy's ass, ass.
