Koreoke, Washington DC, Saturday Night

Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy and Dante, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!

Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.

Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!

[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

The bartender returned a moment later, handing over something in a large paper bag. Kathy peeked inside, laughed, and gave him some cash, chattering all the while in Korean.

Occasionally gesturing towards Dante. And laughing.

Lucky for him, Kathy had a different ulterior motive in mind for the contents of the bag. When she was finished with her conversation with the bartender, she grabbed the bag and sauntered over to Dante, that skirt still working overtime.

"So me a favor, will ya?" she asked, plunking the bag down next to him. Glass bottles clinked within. "Bring this home with you when you go?"

Happy unspoken birthday, Dante.

"Oh, now I'm the errand boy," Dante said, though his tone shifted somewhat as he peered into the bag, mid-sentence.

Kathy didn't even bother to respond, just smiled at him.

"The absolute fucking worst," Dante said, and stretched up to kiss her.

"They're not that heavy, you'll be fine," Kathy murmured, kissing him back.

She'd let him ignore his birthday as long as he needed to.

"Ugh, fine," Dante said, his hand sliding down to pat her over the whisper-of-a-skirt because shut up.

"You're a real fuckin' prince, Dante," Kathy told him, rolling her eyes.

And stealing another kiss.

Just soft ones, though. He hadn't earned the really good ones, brat.

"Aw, you like it," Dante teased gently.

"Yeah, I'm not sure why I'm even here when I can be off talking to one of my nice friends," Kathy said, ostentatiously looking around for someone else to spend time with.

"Like who?" Dante said. "New guy?"

"Eddie," Kathy said. Then, thoughtfully, "And yes, actually. But, you know...everybody's been a lot nicer to me today that you. Tsk. Anders let me steal his soju and Ezra gave me a present and Dad and Raven gave me hugs and told me how happy they were...Yeah. Pretty much everybody. Even the bartender's a sweetheart."

"Okay, Anders did not let you do shit," Dante said, "I saw that, you just stole it right from under his nose."

"Wrong!" Kathy crowed. "He stopped me and then I sat on his lap and told him how much better everything tastes when it's stolen, and then he let me. So nyah."

"So you bribed him," Dante said. "Not working in your favor."

He sighed, leaning to the side to rummage around in another bag, grabbing a distinctly cone-shaped, heavy wrapped package.

It looked and felt like a can.

It was most definitely a can.

He handed it to her.

Kathy raised an eyebrow at him. "A tin can? Wow, I take it back, you are all heart," she teased, unwrapping the paper. "Did you mug a homeless guy for his can of beans?"

It was a can of dog food.

He'd taped a polaroid to the side, a picture of the living room in Limbo City: there was a dog bed, some bags of treats, and a dog bowl sitting by the sofa.

"Yep," Dante said, perky as all hell.

"Oh." Unlike Dante, Kathy couldn't hide her appreciation behind a cool, careless demeanor. This touched her. Deeply.

She knew the guys had both said they were cool with her bring Ronin around, but neither of them had really hidden their general disinterest, either. But here Dante was, going out, getting her puppy stuff, not just letting his be there but making him a place.

A place to belong.

Now she was clinging to him, burying her face in his chest. Looks like he had earned a real kiss after all. "Thank you."

Dante hugged her back tightly, smiling against her shoulder. "We're probably not leaving it out by the sofa, though," he murmured. "Cats'll claim it."

"Cats'll claim it anywhere we put it," Kathy said with a small laugh. "They're cats."

"Yeah, but we can keep the door to your room closed for a while," Dante said, laughing softly.

"Do you - do you think I should keep him in there?" Kathy asked.

"...No," Dante said, blinking at her. "I just don't want the cats to shit all over his shit."

Kathy breathed a sigh of relief. "They have litter boxes, you know," she chided, wrinkling her nose. "Cats are finicky. They'll only ever stop shitting in their boxes if they're sick or it hasn't been cleaned in so long they refuse to go in it."'

At worst, they'd just lie on it and get hair everywhere and hiss when he tried to claim it. And Kathy would back him every time.
