Koreoke, Washington DC, Saturday Night

Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy and Dante, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!

Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.

Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!

[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

Kathy breathed a sigh of relief. "They have litter boxes, you know," she chided, wrinkling her nose. "Cats are finicky. They'll only ever stop shitting in their boxes if they're sick or it hasn't been cleaned in so long they refuse to go in it."'

At worst, they'd just lie on it and get hair everywhere and hiss when he tried to claim it. And Kathy would back him every time.

"Okay, which one of us has had cats for years?" Dante asked. "And who's read about them on the internet?"

"Technically, I lived with them, too!" Kathy protested in lieu of actually answering that question.

"Because my cats will find a way to fuck up your dog's stuff if we don't break it to them gently," Dante said.

Something about the way he said 'my cats,' plural, versus 'her dog,' made Kathy's heart sink, even though it was stupid. He'd been living with Lachlan for a long time, after all, and Kathy wasn't even sure if Ronin was hers to keep yet.

Still, the picture was evidence enough of trying and Kathy couldn't ask for anything more than that. "Okay," she said. "Whatever you think is best."

"We'll move it back out in a few weeks when they get used to the smell," Dante promised, feeling vaguely like he'd said something wrong.

Kathy nodded, holding the can - and the picture, more specifically - to her chest. "That works," she agreed.

Dante nodded, smiling a faint smile. "I want that dog to be a part of our house," he clarified. "Even if he's smelly and drooly as shit."

"He's not," Kathy defended. "Samoyeds are hypoallergenic, so they rarely smell and barely drool and so there."

And her dog's honor defended, she was pulling Dante in for a good kiss there and then, public be damned. He wanted her dog to be part of his home.

Their home.

"Still oughta be nice to me," Kathy murmured, her hands skimming up his arms and over his cheeks. "It's my birthday."

Kathy shivered, and kissed him again, keeping it short, but still hungry and hot. "Is it time for those details you promised now that I'm over here?"

Dante laughed softly. "Maybe later," he said. "But let's just say that's not your only gift."

Kathy started snickering. "I keep telling you, you can't put a ribbon on your dick and call it a present."

Dante snickered. "Close, but no cigar," he teased. "Gonna see if we can get you to beat your old total, Kat..."

Dante pressed a kiss on the skin beneath her ear. "Oh, my present's gonna help you get through the moments I'm not," he said.

"Ooooh," Kathy said and caught her lower lip between her teeth. "Okay, I guess you can put a ribbon on something like that."

Like she hadn't wrapped something like that up in Christmas paper and sent it to his old job one time.

Dante chuckled. He kissed her mouth this time, slow but full of promise.

"So..." Kathy breathed when he pulled away, "how much longer does this thing last?"

"Yeah, but we haven't even had a crazy 80s duet yet," Kathy said, grinning. "Also, I'm sure you haven't had your fill of delicious Korean meat."

"I thought that wasn't gonna be until next year?" Dante said, winking. "... But fine, I guess we can do karaoke for a while. If we gotta, we gotta."

"Is that an every other year thing?" Kathy asked. She'd never paid attention before because it had never affected her. Kinda like being a little kid.

"And we do gotta. Or Turn Around and Bright Eyes will be sad. And you know you can't bear to disappoint them."
