Dante's House, Limbo City, Sunday

Last night after finally exiting the tower, they had made their way back to Dante's place in Limbo City. Kathy had been half-tempted to get a portal back to the island, worried about Eliot, wanting to be home, but she'd been too sore and exhausted to do much more than look at her phone before letting it fall back to pocket.

At least her texts to Raven had gone through, even if she probably seemed like a madwomen in them.

Exhausted as she was, she didn't manage to sleep much past sunrise. Too many thoughts, too many memories, too many feelings crowding close to keep her asleep. She got up, limping a little unevenly downstairs, scrounging to see what kind of breakfast she could make from the remains in the kitchen.

The answer was apparently coffee, so she set that to perking and went to sit in front of the big window, staring out at the street, eyes blank and seeing very little.

Sometime.

Kathy wasn't in much of a hurry to start talking to anyone, least of all him. She wasn't upset with him, not even for running off without letting her or Anders know. But she was upset and wasn't quite able to separate Limbo City from him, if that made sense.

So it was just easier to sit here, to stare, pretending she was looking out the window, and to drink her 'coffee', which was heavily doctored with the contents of a bottle she'd found in the freezer.

Dante came back from his walk sometime later.

This time, when he sank down, it was in the chair opposite Kathy.

"There's pizza coming."

"Cool," Kathy said, turning away from the window to look at him. Not in his eyes; she'd look up at him and then her gaze would skitter away. "Put it on Enzo's tab?"

"As long as that's still taking charges," Dante said. "Damn right."

He watched her for a long moment.

"How're you feeling?"

"Ready to go home," she said, with a slight stress on the word 'home.' This wasn't home and any chance of it becoming that had fallen off the tower yesterday.

Or maybe got shot in the head. Something. She had a number of things she could point to.

Dante bit down on the instinctive, I'm already home. His feelings were still pretty close to the surface, and he didn't like it.

"Can't get a portal for another few hours," he said. "Maybe we should sleep."

That was the problem, wasn't it? Dante was home and Kathy wasn't. Hell, there was already a Kathy here to call it home, whatever she was calling herself.

She held up her coffee mug, ignoring the amount of booze sloshing around in the mix. "Not really tired," she said. "Don't worry about me if you need a nap though."

"Nah, it's boring on my own," Dante said lightly. "Anything you need?"

Kathy snorted but shook her head.

"How are you feeling?" she asked, since that was the fastest way to get him to stop poking at her.

"Like I can use that pizza," Dante said, with an easy laugh that failed to be easy or even really a laugh.

Well, they'd both successfully danced around the question. Good job them, definitely paragons of perfect mental health.

"Must have been a strenuous walk," she said.

"Maybe," Dante said. "And kicking demon ass takes some work."

"Oh yeah," Kathy said, frowning. "I guess I haven't eaten since..."

She paused, going over the day. "Yesterday morning. Huh."

She should be hungry. Right.

"I can order even more pizza," Dante offered.

"My stomach hasn't really caught up with reality," Kathy admitted. "Sorry."

She'd left it behind roughly the first time Vergil had flung her off the tower. She was in...pretty rough shape.

"Do we need to ask Anders to heal you some more?" Dante asked, after a beat.

Kathy's brow furrowed as she thought again. "I don't think we ever got around to healing up the first time," she said. "He offered, but I got distracted by Da--by Arkham stabbing NRA Barbie."

Kathy might have asked if Lady had somewhere to go after they'd all left the tower, but that didn't mean she actually liked her.

"You should see him about that," Dante said quietly.

Kathy shrugged. "I know. I will. I just--haven't. Yet."

She'd had all that quality staring into nothingness to do. You know how it is; cross-dimensional self, evil alternate living father, hearing Dante call Lady 'Kathy,' letting Lady murder her father... It was a lot to mull over.

"You could be hurt," Dante pointed out, running his fingers through his hair.

"Yeah, probably," Kathy said with a sigh. "I'll bring it up to him."

You know. Whenever she worked her way up to initiating conversation.

"How about you? Everything heal up okay?"

"Right as rain," Dante said, though there was something wry to his tone. "Even after mopping up the last of the demons."

Kathy's expression was wry when she looked at him, but she didn't argue the point. "Always fucking demons, huh?"

Demons and unexpected family reunions.

"I mean, they got more class than zombies," Dante joked lightly.

"That was the only thing missing from yesterday, really," Kathy said, also striving for light. "Throw in a few exes and they would have gotten the hat trick. Tell the demons to branch out next time, huh?"
