Dante's House, Limbo City, Sunday

Last night after finally exiting the tower, they had made their way back to Dante's place in Limbo City. Kathy had been half-tempted to get a portal back to the island, worried about Eliot, wanting to be home, but she'd been too sore and exhausted to do much more than look at her phone before letting it fall back to pocket.

At least her texts to Raven had gone through, even if she probably seemed like a madwomen in them.

Exhausted as she was, she didn't manage to sleep much past sunrise. Too many thoughts, too many memories, too many feelings crowding close to keep her asleep. She got up, limping a little unevenly downstairs, scrounging to see what kind of breakfast she could make from the remains in the kitchen.

The answer was apparently coffee, so she set that to perking and went to sit in front of the big window, staring out at the street, eyes blank and seeing very little.

"Like I can use that pizza," Dante said, with an easy laugh that failed to be easy or even really a laugh.

Well, they'd both successfully danced around the question. Good job them, definitely paragons of perfect mental health.

"Must have been a strenuous walk," she said.

"Maybe," Dante said. "And kicking demon ass takes some work."

"Oh yeah," Kathy said, frowning. "I guess I haven't eaten since..."

She paused, going over the day. "Yesterday morning. Huh."

She should be hungry. Right.

"I can order even more pizza," Dante offered.

"My stomach hasn't really caught up with reality," Kathy admitted. "Sorry."

She'd left it behind roughly the first time Vergil had flung her off the tower. She was in...pretty rough shape.

"Do we need to ask Anders to heal you some more?" Dante asked, after a beat.

Kathy's brow furrowed as she thought again. "I don't think we ever got around to healing up the first time," she said. "He offered, but I got distracted by Da--by Arkham stabbing NRA Barbie."

Kathy might have asked if Lady had somewhere to go after they'd all left the tower, but that didn't mean she actually liked her.

"You should see him about that," Dante said quietly.

Kathy shrugged. "I know. I will. I just--haven't. Yet."

She'd had all that quality staring into nothingness to do. You know how it is; cross-dimensional self, evil alternate living father, hearing Dante call Lady 'Kathy,' letting Lady murder her father... It was a lot to mull over.

"You could be hurt," Dante pointed out, running his fingers through his hair.

"Yeah, probably," Kathy said with a sigh. "I'll bring it up to him."

You know. Whenever she worked her way up to initiating conversation.

"How about you? Everything heal up okay?"

"Right as rain," Dante said, though there was something wry to his tone. "Even after mopping up the last of the demons."

Kathy's expression was wry when she looked at him, but she didn't argue the point. "Always fucking demons, huh?"

Demons and unexpected family reunions.

"I mean, they got more class than zombies," Dante joked lightly.

"That was the only thing missing from yesterday, really," Kathy said, also striving for light. "Throw in a few exes and they would have gotten the hat trick. Tell the demons to branch out next time, huh?"

"I wonder if there's a union for that," Dante mused, apropos of nothing.

"Not what I think about when I think 'Demonic Union,' but I think there could be a market for that," Kathy said with a small nod.

Look at them, joking around! They were definitely doing a-okay, all emotionally good over here.

"And I think we can all use a demonic strike now and again," Dante said, oh so seriously.

"There are always gonna be scabs, though," Kathy said, shaking her head sadly. "And then you'll have to go up against Z-class demons and demonic strike-breakers."

"Hey, at least those definitely deserve to die," Dante said.

"I'd hate to just start assuming that because they're demons," Kathy agreed with heavy irony. Her smile felt like it could crack and fall off any moment, but she kept it on anyway. "But demon scabs and strike-breakers - and cops - go right to the top of the list."

"Demon cops," Dante echoed. He pulled a face. "Fuckin' pigs."

"If they don't have actual pig faces under their human masks, I'm calling bullshit on their entire schtick."

Were the portals open yet? She wanted to flee this place and this bullshit artificial conversation before she ended up legitimately screaming.

"Haven't checked," Dante said, shrugging idly. "Maybe I should next time."
