33 Apocalypse Ave, Saturday Morning

For a moment after her alarm went off, Kathy had no idea why she'd even set it. It was the weekend, she had neither work nor class today, she could sleep late if she wanted to. And, slapping blearily at her beeping phone, Kathy very much wanted to. She was warm, lying in a tangle of bodies, still more than a little tired from the night before, which had included a much better resolution that last year's prom.

Oh. Right. Prom. The wheels in her brain started to slowly turn as she put two and two together. Alarm. Unlocked front door. Day after prom. Yes.

"Get up," she said, poking at whoever was closest. "Kids are probably coming. C'mon, get up."

She wanted to be dressed and making breakfast by the time the inevitable horde descended on the house, dammit. But she wasn't going to be doing it alone.

"Get up or I swear I will send the first kid who shows up to come and wake you up proper."

Kathy that was just mean.

Janie whirled around to hug him, looking up at him with big blue eyes. "Please don't ground me?"

Janie, it'll work better if you aren't grinning like you'd just gotten away with murder.

Dante made an over-the-top tutting noise. "Only if you pun harder."

She rolled her eyes as she stepped back from him. "Oh my god, I forgot little you was just as punny."

Because some things about Dante never changed. Or just got more over-the-top.

Dante snickered. "Hey, be nice," he said, "Or you're not getting pancakes."

Janie's eyes went wide. "You wouldn't," she said, looking horrified. "You can't hold pancakes hostage, that's against th' rules."

Pancakes were sacred!

"I can hold hostage whatever I want," Dante retorted. "'Cause I'm dad."

"Mom won't let you," Janie decided staunchly, attempting to be discreet about the fact she was looking around for Ada. "Kids gotta have pancakes t' grow up tall."

"Thought that was vegetables," Dante said, sighing loudly. "Or something. Just ask your mom."

[janiesgotguns]

"Can't. Don't know where she is," Janie muttered, picking at her sleeve slightly. "--you told me pancakes were important."

Because yes, that sounded like something her mom would have said, but her mom hadn't been able to eat fun stuff like hot dogs or bacon so lots of stuff had been about vegetables.

"Never said they weren't," Dante said, sighing oh-so-loudly. "Fine, you win. Pancakes for everybody."
