33 Apocalypse Ave, Saturday Morning

For a moment after her alarm went off, Kathy had no idea why she'd even set it. It was the weekend, she had neither work nor class today, she could sleep late if she wanted to. And, slapping blearily at her beeping phone, Kathy very much wanted to. She was warm, lying in a tangle of bodies, still more than a little tired from the night before, which had included a much better resolution that last year's prom.

Oh. Right. Prom. The wheels in her brain started to slowly turn as she put two and two together. Alarm. Unlocked front door. Day after prom. Yes.

"Get up," she said, poking at whoever was closest. "Kids are probably coming. C'mon, get up."

She wanted to be dressed and making breakfast by the time the inevitable horde descended on the house, dammit. But she wasn't going to be doing it alone.

"Get up or I swear I will send the first kid who shows up to come and wake you up proper."

Kathy that was just mean.

"But that's nice, too," Imogene piped up. "Cause then it's our time, together. You make breakfast and check our homework and send us off to school."

"The dads?" Kathy asked, remembering that the twins last year had called Anders and Dante by their first names. "They're your dads?"

Again, the twins exchanged another long look, like they were confused about how that was a question.

"Yeah?" Tristan said.

"Of course," Imogene replied.

And then they proved it, with a small tongue of fire in the palm of one twin, while the other materialized a weapon.

Kathy was glad she was sitting down. "Oh," she said softly. "You mean literally."

Fraternal twins. Different fathers. It was rare but, yeah, it had happened before.

"Well duh," Imogene said. "How else would we mean it?"

"Don't worry, Mom," Tristan added, "we have your speed, too. We don't just take after them."

"Oh," Kathy said weakly, "Great."

She needed to start making these things more like brunches, so no one would judge her for drinking as heavily as she wanted to in the morning.
