33 Apocalypse Ave, Saturday Morning

For a moment after her alarm went off, Kathy had no idea why she'd even set it. It was the weekend, she had neither work nor class today, she could sleep late if she wanted to. And, slapping blearily at her beeping phone, Kathy very much wanted to. She was warm, lying in a tangle of bodies, still more than a little tired from the night before, which had included a much better resolution that last year's prom.

Oh. Right. Prom. The wheels in her brain started to slowly turn as she put two and two together. Alarm. Unlocked front door. Day after prom. Yes.

"Get up," she said, poking at whoever was closest. "Kids are probably coming. C'mon, get up."

She wanted to be dressed and making breakfast by the time the inevitable horde descended on the house, dammit. But she wasn't going to be doing it alone.

"Get up or I swear I will send the first kid who shows up to come and wake you up proper."

Kathy that was just mean.

"Course I'm a mutant," Aidan said. "You're a mutant, eomma's a mutant, it all kinda worked out."

"What can you do?" Kathy asked, coming over to inspect the damage to their son and then the damage to the tiles.

"Some kind of shifting," Raven guessed. "Or superstrength, maybe? I've always wanted superstrength."

[momsnotdead]

"Nah," Aidan said, shaking his head. "It's cooler than that. Uncle Charles called it biokinesis the one time I met him. Mostly I can just change my density, so I can either be really light and bouncy like eomma, or really, really heavy."

He sat back and preened. "But I can do other stuff that's cool, too."

"You've met Uncle Charles."

And the hits just kept coming.

And they don't stop coming.

"Just the one time," Aidan said. "There was a lot of yelling and then you leapt out the window and then eomma threw him out. But then he waited for you anyway and you threw him out again."

It was a very complicated situation.

"But before all the yelling, he looked at me and made my brain itchy and said that I have biokinesis."

"That's his telepathy," Raven said. "I jumped out a window?"

[momsnotdead]

"You were a bear," Aidan said, like that explained everything.

[tigerundercover]

"Who jumped out a window."

[momsnotdead]

"Well, we were on the first floor," Aidan said.

Did that make it better?

[tigerundercover]

"Okay, but, like, did Charles say something dumb, or . . . ?"

[momsnotdead]

Aidan shrugged. "I dunno, I was kinda little," he confessed. "I always thought you jumped because you turned into a bear and eomma always said no bears in the house."

[tigerundercover]

"That's a good rule. I usually only turn into a bear in the woods."

[momsnotdead]

"So, I always kinda thought that you turned into a bear and then realized it, so you jumped out the window so you wouldn't get in trouble," Aidan said, with the embarrassed expression on his face of someone who had logicked his way through a puzzle years ago and was only now realizing how silly it sounded.

“Was Charles being dumb first? Because I could see me going bear on him if he was being really dumb.”

[momsnotdead]

Aidan shrugged. "Probably? You and eomma call him bad names when you think I'm not listening."
