33 Apocalypse Ave, Saturday Morning

For a moment after her alarm went off, Kathy had no idea why she'd even set it. It was the weekend, she had neither work nor class today, she could sleep late if she wanted to. And, slapping blearily at her beeping phone, Kathy very much wanted to. She was warm, lying in a tangle of bodies, still more than a little tired from the night before, which had included a much better resolution that last year's prom.

Oh. Right. Prom. The wheels in her brain started to slowly turn as she put two and two together. Alarm. Unlocked front door. Day after prom. Yes.

"Get up," she said, poking at whoever was closest. "Kids are probably coming. C'mon, get up."

She wanted to be dressed and making breakfast by the time the inevitable horde descended on the house, dammit. But she wasn't going to be doing it alone.

"Get up or I swear I will send the first kid who shows up to come and wake you up proper."

Kathy that was just mean.

"I've seen your mom at Christmas," Dante started, looked at the little girl he didn't fully recognize, blinked, and said, "Kathy's, right?"

It seemed likely.

It was pretty easy to tell which kids belonged to Kathy in any given crowd, yes.

"Yeah, so I stopped believing you weren't a dad until lunchtime when I was six," Imogene said, rolling her eyes. "...Tristan might have believed until he was seven, though."

"I did not!" called the boy from the couch. "I figured it out first!"

"What, is your mom telling lies about me?" Dante said, squinting. "'Cause that doesn't sound right."

"Well, you don't really like mornings," Imogene said with a shrug. "But you can't just ask if we're Mom's like we're just Mom's."

Dante held his hands up. "You never know around here," he pointed out. "You might be some other guy's."

[bouncingpowerbrats]

Imogene flinched back. "No," she said quietly. "I'm yours."

Should she prove it? She glanced around, looking at all the people. No, she wasn't supposed to.

"Okay," Dante said, ease in his voice. "You're mine. Good to know. You want some hot chocolate?"

"Mom's using the stove," Imogene mumbled, still subdued.

"I could heat it up!" Tristan volunteered. "If it's just a little bit in a cup!"

"We do have a microwave," Dante agreed, and reached for Imogene's hand.

Imogene regarded him warily for another moment, then slipped her hand into his.

"He means with his powers," she explained, as Tristan got off the couch and joined them. "He doesn't have to be as careful."

"I do, too," Tristan argued, also reaching for Dante's hand, an absentminded gesture that suggested it was a fairly common thing. "I could set the house on fire if I'm not careful."

"Not the same as luring demons to the house," Imogene retorted.

This seemed to be a fairly common argument.

"Wait, which one of you is luring demons to the house?" Dante asked, content to let both kids latch on to his hands as he walked towards the kitchen.

"It was only one time," Imogene protested, shooting her brother a look. "And by accident!"

"Well, did you kick their ass?" Dante said, giving Kathy a nod as he passed by her on his way to the cupboard with the cocoa.

Kathy was adding strawberries to the pancake batter, but she glanced up and smiled as they passed.

"No way, she was too little," Tristan said, laughing.

"Maybe I could have!" Imogene retorted, before looking up at Dante with a face full of smiles. "You did. It was awesome."

"'Course it was," Dante said merrily, letting go of them so he could go grab the cocoa mix. "But eh, give it a few more years. Bet you'll be just as badass, and your dickhead brother will just have to deal."

Dante!

"Dante!"

"What? He's being a brat," Dante said, sticking his tongue out at the kid.

"I wonder where he could have gotten it from," Kathy said, glaring.

So help her, Dante, you make a single kid cry this weekend...

Like the kids wouldn't be used to it.

"Anders?" Dante offered innocently.

[bouncingpowerbrats]

"I'm fine, Mom, jeez," Tristan said, embarrassed that she was making a fuss. "Dante didn't mean it."

"And," Imogen said helpfully, "he's right, too."

Dante put the cocoa mix down on the counter and nudged the fridge open with his foot. "And now," he said, "Milk."

In unison the twins went, "Oooooooooh" and appluded like he'd done a trick.

Both kids were dickheads.
