Koreoke, Washington DC, Saturday Night

Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy and Dante, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!

Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.

Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!

[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

Ringo rolled her eyes. "And if it wasn't your birthday, you'd have some other reason that I should so something for you."

"Yup!" Kathy said brightly. "But this one has the benefit of making you feel bad if you say no!"

"Pfft, that's not going to work on me, anymore." At least not if Kathy just said it like that. "I'm used to your tricks."

Kathy brought out the big guns.

She gave Ringo sad eyes. And wibbled.

"Hey!" Ringo pointed accusatively at Kathy. "None of that, you cheater!"

Like that was going to dissuade Kathy at all.

"But, Ringo," Kathy said softly, "it's my birthday."

"Quiiiit it," Ringo whined. "You know that's not fair."

Kathy just sniffled and continued to look saaaaaad.

Ringo held her hands up to cover her eyes. "I can't seeee you," she sing-songed desperately.

Kathy took in one long, quavering breath. "I guess..." she said sadly. "If you just want me to be sad."

"I know you're faking," Ringo declared, a bit of a waver in her voice.

"Am I though?" Kathy asked, voice hitching. "Are you sure?"

She kept her eyes covered to avoid the expression she could totally imagine was on Kathy's face. "Yeeeeeeees?"

That question mark sure was convincing, Ringo.

Since Ringo wasn't looking at her, Kathy was moving stealthily around, grabbing a mic and punching in numbers for a song.

"Fine!" Ringo snapped, her bottom lip wibbling. "I'll do it!"

Even if she was sure it was all an act, it was a hard act to watch given how much she looked up to Kathy.

"Just, um, not in front of everyone."

Kathy laughed and stopped the music, reaching out to drag Ringo up to the stage. "Don't be a goose," she said. "I'd never do it for real. Not like this."

That was a promise.

"Now figure out something to sing with me, okay?"

Ringo's eyes brightened. Kathy had always been able to reassure her. "A duet?" she exclaimed excitedly.

"Absolutely," Kathy said, grinning. "I'll even let you pick the song."
