Koreoke, Washington DC, Saturday Night

Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy and Dante, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!

Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.

Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!

[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

Which Ezra was fully aware of, the evidence of which Dante was going to be finding in his pockets at one point or another in the evening. But he wasn't going to mention it, no.

"Alas, it doesn't," he said, mock solemn, before cracking an unrepentant grin. "But I'm still pretty."

Dante made a big show of tilting his head, examining Ezra, and squinting a lot.

"... Yeah, I guess you're still pretty," he said. "Maybe even a little prettier."

Ezra was preening, because of course he was. And maybe even exaggerating a little - it came kind of naturally in the fox suit.

"I'm aging like fine wine, of course."

"But not forgetting your inner kigu-wearing child," Dante said, tapping him on the chest. "'s a good balance."

"Thank you," Ezra said, glancing down at his hand. "I happen to think so too."

Dante was going to blame all the soju he'd had for the hand, though he dropped it without a care in the world. (It was not the soju. It just felt nice flirting with Ezra again.)

"So you got enough meat yet?" he said, grinning. "'Cause I think there can always be more meat."

Ezra wrinkled his nose. "Why would you ask me a question you're going to answer in the next sentence?" he complained. "Especially such a dumb question! Because one, I barely just got here, and two, there can always be more meat. I am insatiable."

"I mean, what if you'd gone vegetarian on me in the like a month since we hung out?" Dante said, pretending - and failing - to look innocent. "Just lookin' out for you, man."

Dante shrugged. What were you gonna do? "Hey, what do I know, maybe there's a fox that likes lettuce."

"Maybe as a garnish on a steak at some hipstery restaurant," Ezra scoffed.

"That you pick off one by one?" Dante suggested, laughing.

"Possibly." But he also shook his head. "Don't serve me lettuce, Dante."

Dante sighed loudly.

He reached over to... grab a large piece of lettuce.

And then used it to pick up a tray of beef slices, putting them down in front of Ezra.

He left the lettuce on top.

"You're not as funny as you think," Ezra told him with a mock-heavy sigh as he we went to carefully pick up a beef slice without disturbing the lettuce. "You're lucky you're pretty."

"Eh, you enjoy having me around," Dante said. "I don't really care which way."

"You just keep telling yourself that," Ezra replied as he reached over and patted Dante's back.

How he managed to use the same movement to secretly drop a little something sans the personalized monogram in Dante's pocket, well, that was fox magic.

And Dante, always the team bruiser, didn't notice even one bit. "Aw, just what I wanted," he said, "Being patronised by a fox at Kathy's birthday."

He heaved a loud sigh. "You gotta sing for that crime," he decided.

Ezra's head tilted to the side. "I don't follow that logic."

"You gave me the patronising pat," Dante said. "That's a crime. And the fine is karaoke."

"Since when are you the birthday police?" Ezra inquired without missing a beat.

Dante thought about it.

"Since now," he decided.

"This isn't even your party," Ezra pointed out. "Have you cleared this newfound authority position with Miss Li?"

"She'd back me up," Dante said. "Everyone wants fox karaoke."
