Koreoke, Washington DC, Saturday Night

Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy and Dante, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!

Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.

Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!

[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

Kathy still. "Oh?" she asked, trying to keep her voice light. Casual. "I mean, I think the Preserve is bigger on the inside than it looks. Are you going deeper, or...?"

"I'm not sure there's anywhere on the island that isn't going to get any monsters," Raven said, giving Kathy an apologetic smile. "Would it -- would you be okay if I went to the mainland for awhile?"

Part of Kathy wanted to say no. Part of Kathy wanted to pitch a fit and tell Raven that she didn't want her to move away and that everything should stay the same as it was.

But...that wasn't fair to Raven. And it was terrible and selfish and wrong.

"I'll be okay," Kathy told her with a smile. Not a fake, everything-is-fine-really! smile, but a small, sad smile that said she understood, even though it hurt. "Really. And if you've gotta go to be okay, then that's what I want you to do, too."

Raven wrapped her in a giant hug. "I'll have my phone. We'll still talk, like, every night."

They probably wouldn't -- Raven wouldn't be spending that much time around electricity -- but they would definitely talk all the time.

Yeaaaah, guess who was going to be getting a small generator as a last minute Christmas present add-on?

"Good," Kathy said, clinging tight. "We'd better. And I'd better get really pretty landscape pics in my inbox, too. I'll start an Instagram for them and everything."
