Arms Hotel, Saturday Morning

Okay, so for all the complaining about having to get up early - especially after a night chock-full of pollen - this was Kathy's favorite weekend of the year. Surrounded by kids who called her mom, arguing over breakfast, listening to them babble on about their likes and interests and hopes, singing them to sleep at night. Even with as a late an evening as they'd had, she was still up, bright and early, humming around the public room of the suite, readying it for tiny visitors.

A hotel room meant that she had to rely on room service for breakfast, but she made due, making sure to order plenty of fruit (heavy on the strawberries), and juice, and more bacon and sausage than any one room really ought to have.

Now to wait for folks to start showing up!

"...Did he get a Devil Arm that was also a bike, hon?" Kathy asked.

She guessed it was no weirder than a guitar?

"And he won't let anyone touch it," Evie said. Pointedly.

And now he had two Li women glaring at him.

Dante stared at them. "I don't even have that thing yet!"

"And when you get it, you won't share," Kathy said, hands on her hips. "Way to set an example for our daughter, Dante."

"Now I don't know how to share and it's all his fault," Evie agreed.

(She just didn't like to.)

"Are eleven year olds even supposed to touch motorcycles?" Dante said.

Kathy raised an eyebrow at him. "How old were you when you first learned?"

"Sixteen?"

"Well, now Evie has two responsible pare--" Kathy paused. Blinked. Looked at Dante. "Not when we went out and - " She glanced at Evie " - acquired you one, right? That wasn't your first time?"

Dante tilted his head. "Maybe third."

"Great, now I have to go and have a retroactive panic attack," Kathy grumbled. "Fortunately, I actually had lessons on how to ride a motorcycle, so I can teach you, even at eleven."

"Who needs lessons?" Dante said, grinning brightly. "Live dangerously, that's how all the fun things happen."

He winked at Evie. (She rolled her eyes.)

"I'm glad you've learned when it's appropriate to listen to your dad," Kathy drawled.

"Never?" Evie said sweetly.

She knew which parent she was sucking up to!

"Now now," Kathy teased. "I'm sure there are times when he tells you to go ask your mother. You can listen then."

"But does he know the right moments?" Evie mused.

"Hey!"

"Dante, don't argue with your daughter when she has a point," Kathy said, giving him a smug smile. "It sets a bad example."
