All the lights were on in the house, chasing away the settling dusk. It made the house look warm and homey, a golden glow pouring out of every window. For the first time since she'd arrived back on Fandom, Kathy felt like she wanted to cook, just bibimbap, simple and easy, but delicious and easy and friendly. Spices scented the air, smelling like home.

A nice place to come and visit, perhaps.

"Wait, really?" Sarah asked, eyes wide. She looked at Kathy for confirmation.

"They're kinda like dogs sometimes," Kathy said, which was true at least. "They'll follow you around to see what you're up to. Sometimes they'll even push in to watch you real close."

"Apparently getting a headbutt from a cow is super cute," Dante said, grinning.

"It reminded me of how you flirt," Kathy shot back, also grinning. "Awkward yet weirdly adorable."

"Hey now," Dante said. "I'm fucking smooth, okay?"

"Like a geiger counter by Chernobyl," Kathy retorted.

"A seismograph during an earthquake!" Sarah chimed in.

"A lie-detector machine during a meeting of Congress," Kathy said, both girls laughing.

"I don't think you'll win this one, son," Eva said, visibly amused.

"He's used to that," Kathy said sweetly.

"Hey now," Dante said, frowning at her. "That is so not true."

"Dante, you're not supposed to lie in front of your mom," Sarah whispered loudly.

"That's my girl," Kathy said, proud.

"You weren't a subtle child," Eva told Dante, a smile playing on her lips. "You should wear your brashness with pride."

"He's not a subtle man," Kathy said, sounding similarly fond, looking across her bowl of bibimbap with a smile just for him. "But one of the things I admire most about him is that he doesn't apologize for who he is and encourages me to be that way, too."

"Well, you shouldn't apologize," Dante said, picking at his food. "You're pretty fucking awesome."

"Oh," Kathy said, looking down and smiling. "No, I'm really--"

"UGH!" Sarah interrupted loudly. "I've been dead for three years and you still haven't learned to take a compliment?" She flicked a chunk of carrot at Kathy's face. "Be quiet and say thank you. Or, you know what? Just say I know."
