Barry's Old Warehouse, Warehouse District, Monday Afternoon

There were some days when you just had to get away, when the house just felt small and confining and more than a little bit suffocating. That feeling had chased Kathy all morning until she'd finally grabbed her guitar and a book or two and left. As soon as the door closed behind her, she'd breathed a bit easier, some of the tension leaving her jaw and shoulders. A walk through town helped relax her even more, her mood light enough after grabbing lunch at Luke's to see her whistling as she meandered around.

She still didn't want to head home, so instead she wandered over to Barry's old warehouse, settling in with her books and her guitar, idly reading and playing as the mood took her. Nothing like a few hours of quiet time in an old warehouse to make someone miss the comforts of home, right?

It would be nicer if she didn't.

But she wasn't thinking about that either. Or anything at all. There were very few times that kissing Dante didn't banish thoughts altogether, leaving her conscious only of what he was doing with his body and she with hers.

Dante slid his fingers through her hair, careful not to bump into her guitar or anything.

Finally he pulled away, grinning sunnily at her.

It took Kathy a moment or two to get all her synapses firing again, but she stuck her tongue out at him on reflex.

Anytime he gave her that smile, it meant he was being a brat. Didn't matter if she knew how or why, she always knew that.

"Still not the front man," she declared.

"Totally am," Dante said, patting her leg. "Play me a song."

"What, one of the new ones?" she asked, already flipping the pages in the book in front of her until she found one she knew pretty well.

The opening guitar riff was really pretty, even as slow and hesitant as she was playing it. Every so often, she'd absently sing a few snatches of the song before focusing on the tabs again.

"Works for me," Dante said, and then sat back to listen to her play.

When she finished going through 'This Love,' she immediately went back and played it again, working on hitting fewer sour notes this time and getting the rhythm and timing right. She'd move onto another song in a second, but she liked repeating a new song once or twice when she first started practicing.

"Something faster now?" she asked, when she brought it to a close.

"You're the guitarist," Dante said, smiling. "Your call."

Okay, this one was a little faster, but definitely more poppy than rock. Then again, neither T-ARA nor Davichi were exactly known for their rock music.

"I like the rap that's in this one," Kathy said with a small smile, keeping the beat with the base of her hand on her guitar. "Even if the video is all of them in some kind of 'who can look most vulnerable at the camera' contest."

"Is it?" Dante said, leaning forward, smirking. "Show me your take."

"What, you don't think I can rap?" Kathy asked, eyebrow up. "Oh, ye of little faith. Cha girl can rap."

"Uh huhhh," Dante said.

Dubiously.

"You asked for this," Kathy said, setting her guitar aside and bouncing up to her feet. It took her a second to remember all the words, her hips shifting back and forth to the rhythm.

Her foot tapped as she dove right in. The words were (mostly) Korean, but she still knew how to spit them, strutting back and forth in front of the couch as she got into it.

Dante laughed as she did so, but it was at least a little appreciative. "Auditioning for a hiphop video too?" he teased.

"Why not?" Kathy asked, giving him a wink. "You could be the king but watch the queen conquer."

Which she also had memorized. That and Nicki's verse from Bang Bang. And Anaconda. And--look, she just like Nicki, okay?

"Hey, I've met your anaconda," Dante teased. "Still doesn't make you a hiphop video star. Like your private shows better anyway."

"If I remember correctly you didn't," Kathy said with a smirk. "We were still kinda on the outs when I had one of those. You'll have to wait for next year to meet my anaconda."

She paused, hip cocked to the side. "Lucky for you, you got enough buns to make it want some."

Dante laughed.

"... So did you introduce Anders to it?"

"Yeah," Kathy said, flushing. "It's how I discovered that, umm, I'm okay with going down on girls under certain circumstances, at least."

Dante snickered softly. "Fuck my timing," he said.

"We're good now, right?" Kathy pointed out cheerfully. "Next time it happens, I'll show you some of what I learned to do to pretty girls I want to fuck."

Dante smirked, sitting back. "You were a pretty hot dude."

"You did look like you were more interested than you wanted to be," Kathy noted, flinging herself back onto the couch, her guitar between them. "Probably the skinny jeans you loaned me. Made my ass look good."

And her abs had gone on forever.

"Part of me wanted to sit on you right there," Dante admitted. "Though that mighta just been my short skirt talking."

"It was a good skirt," Kathy said, smiling a bit at the memory. They hadn't been ready yet--it would have made things even weirder between them--but it had been a good skirt. "First time you'd been a girl?"

It had been Kathy's first time as a guy. It had managed to skip her the other times it hit, much like how she always remained her age when everyone else went small.
