Housewarming Party! Apartment Above Luke's, Friday Afternoon Till Evening

Raven and Kathy were officially moved in!

Okay, not everything was done and most of their stuff was still at Eliot's, but they'd gotten a lot of work done painting and assembling furniture and most of what was left could be moved over a bit at a time. Which meant...it was close enough to being fully moved in that a small party was warranted. Especially if you were looking for a way to show you were nice, sane and adjusted a reason to party!

The party proper started at 6pm with plenty of delicious foods to enjoy, but people were more than welcome to come over early and help with the remaining wall painting and furniture assembling there was to do. Help was appreciated, but mostly people were invited to over to eat, relax, and help make this new place feel like a real home.

Kathy shook her head. "No, nothing there. I almost added bacon bits but I decided not to at the last minute," she said with a laugh that bordered on hysterical.

"Well there you go!" Raven was maybe a little too enthusiastic about that salad. "Okay, so this isn't great. But it's doable. I could . . . accidentally knock your plate off the table, so no one has to notice?"

"I'm sure we don't have to go that far," Kathy said. "Who pays attention to what I'm eating?"

Besides Raven, of course. And Eliot. And she'd spotted Hardison sneaking glances at both of their plates. And hadn't Anders said something the other day...?

Okay, so maybe Ringo and Alluka weren't going to notice?

"I'm pretty sure Mr. Spencer is paying attention to literally everything you're doing," Raven pointed out. "It's actually kind of creepy."

"No it's not," Kathy protested immediately. "Part of that is just him. He watches everything, just in case."

Not helping here, Kathy.

"He just wants to make sure I'm okay."

"If you say so." Raven clearly didn't buy it. She wouldn't do anything -- he was Kathy's mentor, not hers -- but she definitely was going to keep right on thinking Mr. Spencer was kind of creepy. "You sure you don't want me to stealth destroy your plate?"

"But we just got the set!" Kathy protested, though she was laughing as she said it. Weakly, anyway. "No, I'll just push stuff around and then load up on salad."

She paused. "How would you stealth-destroy my plate anyway?" Color her curious.

"Accidentally knock it onto the floor. Then maybe accidentally grow an elephant foot?" Raven shrugged. "There are ways."

"That's not stealthy," Kathy informed her, rising her mouth out with a handful of water from the sink. "That's kind of the opposite of stealth."

"What if I go out disguised as you and accidentally knock your plate off the table?"

"Wouldn't it make more sense to go out looking like me and eating everything instead?" Kathy asked. "Then no one would try to help me or you or whoever by making another plate with the exact same things."

"Okay, but then everyone's going to wonder why 'you're' out there stuffing your face when I'm missing."

"'You' wanted to take a walk," Kathy suggested. "Or a nap. Or...okay, yeah, this won't work, either. Maybe I'll just cover my plate with salad and then just ignore everything under the bottom layer of greens."

"That might actually be our best plan," Raven said. "And if anyone asks, say it's a really good salad and then I'll distract them with a shiny new subject change."

Kathy held out her hand to shake. "Teamwork," she said. "Anything you need a shiny new subject change over?" she asked.

"Not that comes to mind," Raven said. "I'm sure you'll come up with something if I do, though."

They sure spent a lot of time not talking about things together.

"Of course I will," Kathy promised. "I've always got your back. Just not with a paintbrush."
