Housewarming Party! Apartment Above Luke's, Friday Afternoon Till Evening

Raven and Kathy were officially moved in!

Okay, not everything was done and most of their stuff was still at Eliot's, but they'd gotten a lot of work done painting and assembling furniture and most of what was left could be moved over a bit at a time. Which meant...it was close enough to being fully moved in that a small party was warranted. Especially if you were looking for a way to show you were nice, sane and adjusted a reason to party!

The party proper started at 6pm with plenty of delicious foods to enjoy, but people were more than welcome to come over early and help with the remaining wall painting and furniture assembling there was to do. Help was appreciated, but mostly people were invited to over to eat, relax, and help make this new place feel like a real home.

Jalian hadn't been able to show up earlier, but she did come for dinner.

...most of which she couldn't eat. Oh, well. She was mostly here to see people, anyway.

Kathy nudged the salad over towards Jalian. Her own plate was also barren save for salad greens. "Sorry," she apologized. "I forgot you were a vegetarian."

Jalian shrugged. "I am used to it." She eyed Kathy curiously but with a sharp edge. "You were dead?"

Kathy shrugged. "I think the proper term is 'undead'," she said. "My vital signs had stopped and everything that made me Kathy was gone, but I was still shambling around. Has anyone shown you a zombie flick yet?"

"Maybe. I don't remember." Jalian shrugged. "But you're here now. Is it strange?"

"Yes," Kathy said wryly. "Whether you mean if the idea of resurrection is strange or if I'm finding it strange being back, both answers are yes."

Jalian nodded. "That's expected, I think. But I'm glad you're back. And Raven."

Possibly one of those more than the other, but she was tactful enough not to say it.

That was fair. Kathy couldn't pretend to having the kind of relationship with Jalian that Raven had.

"I'm glad to be back," she said, chasing a cherry tomato with her fork. "But it's an adjustment, that's for sure."

Jalian nodded. "You will make it."

Or she wouldn't. There were really only the two options, weren't there?

"I'd better," Kathy said. "I'm pretty sure they didn't bring me back just so I could give up at the first difficulty I encountered."

"No," Jalian agreed. She shrugged. "You don't give up easily." If she had, she wouldn't have died in the first place, after all.

True, which meant that that might not be the best trait to cultivate here.

"Giving up was never tolerated growing up," Kathy said with a shrug, spooning more salad onto her plate. "Never really learned the knack of it."

"Sometimes being stubborn is the only way to get things done," Jalian said, shrugging.

"Jalian!" Raven smiled. "Hey, you made it."

"Yes." Jalian smiled back. "It was much less far for me."

"Yeah." Raven ducked her head, then looked back towards the table. "Grab a seat. I'll get you some -- salad."

Jalian snorted. "So much meat. But it's good to have all this food, I bet."

"I guess." Raven shrugged. "It was mostly Kathy's plan. I always found dinner parties kind of boring, but she was super into it, so. . . ."

"I've never been to one before," Jalian said. "So, this is the best dinner party I've seen."

She cocked her head at Raven. "Are you happy to be back?"

"Of course," Raven said. And while she didn't entirely sound like she meant it, she also wasn't lying. "Why wouldn't I be?"

Jalian shrugged. "A lot of things can happen. People can change. You weren't going to stay even before this. College, yes?"

"A job," Raven said. "But -- elsewhere, yeah. I guess I would have left by now, if things had gone the way we thought."

That was a strange thought. She and Jalian would already have been done, wouldn't they. She couldn't quite see herself trying to keep up with a crossdimensional romance.

"What about you? Are you going to stick around, after school ends?"

Jalian shook her head. "I must stop Armageddon."

"Yeah. That is -- a plan. Or a goal. Or something. That's -- wow."

The last time someone she cared about said that she ended up dead and Raven went trekking through a zombie apocalypse.

Jalian shrugged. "When I tried the first time, I ended up here. Now I know, I can compensate for the island's attraction and end up where I need to be. And I already have the Doorway built."
