Room 508, Thursday Afternoon

If anyone asked Kathy how she was dealing with the events of Monday's little destination adventure, she'd tell them she was doing just fine, thank you. She'd had her crying, she'd had a good talk, she'd drowned her brain out with purely physical pleasure for a bit, and now she was much better. The only lasting consequence of Monday was her new inability to walk past a certain empty room on the fifth floor without blushing a little bit. Everything was fine.

Granted, she hadn't gone out and patrolled as Banzai even once yet this week. And she was spending hours at the gym and in the salle, weight-training and working on the moves Eliot had been drilling into her for several months now. Oh, and she wasn't sleeping well at all, even with how exhausted she was. But those weren't related, either to one another or to Monday. They just...were. She was just adjusting after a week away. Or the change in seasons and the darkening days were messing with her natural rhythms. Or it was stress over college applications. Kathy had a hundred different excuses she could apply to the situation--or would if there were a situation.

Which there wasn't.

Because she was fine.

Take today for instance. She had dubstep blaring wile she did set after set after set of pushups. Beneath her on the floor was her Italian textbook; she was memorizing verb conjugation with every rep. On her bed were several dresses so she could figure out what to wear for the dance this weekend in between sets. In all, a completely normal day with nothing at all amiss.

See? Kathy was fine.

"Kathy, honey, I love you, but that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard."

"I know," Kathy groaned, dropping her head onto her knees. "Believe me, I know. I just feel like such an imposition when I ask for stuff like that."

"Well, next time you feel that way, remind yourself that you don't get mad at other people if they want to talk, so they probably won't get mad at you."

[spin_kick_snap]

"Oh, well, when you're gonna use logic on that..." Kathy muttered. "Actually, Raven...Would you run into a burning building if you thought there were people inside the fire department wouldn't get to in time?"

[tigerundercover]

Raven made sure to take the time to actually think about her answer. Kathy wouldn't appreciate something off the cuff. "I . . . really don't know. I've never been in that sort of situation before. I'd like to think I would."

"Everyone else I mentioned that to thought I was an idiot for doing it," Kathy said. "So sometimes it's hard to judge what other people think by what I do."

"Alright, that's a point. But listening to someone else talk about their bad day isn't exactly the same thing as running into a burning building."

[spin_kick_snap]

"I know it isn't," Kathy agreed, holding out her ice cream in case Raven wanted a few bites of her flavor, too. "But this is a different kind of bad day than, like, 'I failed a test and my boyfriend dumped me' or whatever."

Not that she saw herself ever having to worry about either.

"And yet still not running into a burning building."

"My life is vast swathes of mundane interspersed with crazy as balls," Kathy said, snorting a laugh.

[tigerundercover]

"And lucky for you, your roommate is a shapeshifter who was once hunted down by an angry mob, and thus knows exactly what you're talking about."

[spin_kick_snap]

"And this is why we're best friends," Kathy said. "Because who else could have stories like that?"

[tigerundercover]

"Exactly," Raven lifted her ice cream container to 'clink' against Kathy's. "Best weirdo mutant crazy people friends forever."

Kathy clinked back. "Weirdo crazy mutant besties forever. From here to LA, baby."

"And beyond."
