Arms Hotel, Saturday Morning

Okay, so for all the complaining about having to get up early - especially after a night chock-full of pollen - this was Kathy's favorite weekend of the year. Surrounded by kids who called her mom, arguing over breakfast, listening to them babble on about their likes and interests and hopes, singing them to sleep at night. Even with as a late an evening as they'd had, she was still up, bright and early, humming around the public room of the suite, readying it for tiny visitors.

A hotel room meant that she had to rely on room service for breakfast, but she made due, making sure to order plenty of fruit (heavy on the strawberries), and juice, and more bacon and sausage than any one room really ought to have.

Now to wait for folks to start showing up!

"I think you're lying," Evie muttered mulishly against Kathy's shoulder.

"I think you're vastly underestimating just how much I love hugs," Kathy murmured to her.

Still, she let her go a minute later, because she didn't want Evie to think that the girl didn't have a right to bodily autonomy. Or that she couldn't deny someone hugs, even her own (tiny version) mom.

"Yeah, you seriously are," Dante said, coming up behind them, hands in his pockets, an easy smile in his face. "Cut us some slack, kid. We'll have your back if you tell us."

Evie blew air into her cheeks so her face puffed up. "You think you'll be okay if I tell you?" she said. "Other you."

"Darling, I think we'd want to know," Kathy said, seriously. "Anything that has you worried is important to us. We might even know something is wrong and are just waiting for you to feel comfortable enough to tell us."

She reached for Evie's hand. "But I can't imagine ever getting upset with you for telling us something like this. Whether you felt better coming to any one of us or all of us together, we just want you to feel like you could always talk to us about anything."

"I mean, future us are parents. We're supposed to ride in, fix everything, and then be just doofy enough that you can write it all off as just us being dumb if you wanna," Dante said, grinning.

Evie giggled, forgetting to be aloof for long enough to squeeze Kathy's hand.

Watch out, Dante. Kathy was falling in love with you that much more today.

"Well, he'll be doofy," Kathy 'whispered', loud enough to be heard in the next room, probably. "I'll be as cool as always."

...Which was 'not at all,' really.

"You are both already super uncool," Evie pointed out.

"Yeah, well, I know who put that leather jacket on you," Dante informed her. "If we're uncool, so are you."

"Yeah," Kathy agreed. "Where do you think you got all your cool from?"

Again, not her.

"Anders?" Evie said sweetly.

Kathy scoffed. "Literally nobody believes that," she said, giving Anders a fond smile.

"Still cooler than both of you," Evie decided. "He can shoot lightning."

"I have a sword that's on fire?" Dante ventured.

"And talks too much!"

"I...uh...I..."

Dammit.

"I bounce?"

Yeah. Still not winning any awards for cool. Sigh.

"Less annoying than the talking sword," Evie informed her.

"Agni and Rudra or does he have and even more obnoxious sword?" Kathy asked.

"Agni and Rudra," Evie confirmed. "Though I also kinda hate the motorcycle."

"Wait, why are you hating the motorcycle?" Kathy asked, confused. "Motorcycles are cool!"

Look, even she knew that much! It was one of the few claims to cool she had!

"No, I mean the motorcycle he uses to saw demons with," Evie said, pulling a face.

"I'm sorry, what?" Kathy asked, looking at Dante askance.

"I would never do that to my bike," Dante said. Insistently.

"...Did he get a Devil Arm that was also a bike, hon?" Kathy asked.

She guessed it was no weirder than a guitar?

"And he won't let anyone touch it," Evie said. Pointedly.
