Koreoke, Washington DC, Saturday Night

Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy and Dante, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!

Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.

Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!

[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

"Ha!" Kathy snorted from her spot on the couch. "Haven't we had that contest, kohai. I distinctly remember winning!"

Ringo hummed, looking off to one side as if trying to remember.

"No, that certainly doesn't ring a bell."

"Tragic when someone so young starts to lose her memory," Kathy lamented into her glass. "Just tragic."

"I don't know." Ringo pursed her lips. "I mean, knowing you, isn't it a lot more likely that you're suffering from delusions of grandeur? I mean, name one thing you've actually beat me at."

And 'everything' didn't count.

"Everything?" Kathy asked innocently.

Hey, she couldn't read narrative, okay?

Wait. Saying it that way made it sound like Ringo agreed.

"And that's not even true, anyway!"

"I think the first thing was lockpicking," Kathy said thoughtfully. "It's hard to wade through all the things to find the very first."

"Lockpicking?" Ringo was trying really hard to look innocent and confused, but her blush was kind of ruining that attempt.

She still remembered that stupid song Kathy had made her sing.

"You know what song you should sing?!" Kathy asked, grinning. "Cause I have a suggestion.*

"Considering your taste in music, it's probably not any good," Ringo responded, sticking out her tongue.

"It might even be the best song you ever sang," Kathy said. "Definitely the one that gave me the most joy."

Ringo almost taunted Kathy that if it was in the karaoke machine, she'd sing it, but assuming Kathy hadn't done any prep on that front was how she ended up doing things like singing the song in the first place. Ringo caught herself just in time, and picked a different comeback.

"If you like it so much, then you sing it."

Good one, Ringo.

"But you bring a certain je ne sais quois to it that I just can't match," Kathy said. "You did say you were better at singing than me, didn't you?"

"And you said that you were better, so go ahead and try to prove it." Ringo lifted her chin, trying to look superior. "I promise not to laugh."

"But Ringo," Kathy said, batting her eyes at her. "It's my birthday."

Ringo rolled her eyes. "And if it wasn't your birthday, you'd have some other reason that I should so something for you."

"Yup!" Kathy said brightly. "But this one has the benefit of making you feel bad if you say no!"

"Pfft, that's not going to work on me, anymore." At least not if Kathy just said it like that. "I'm used to your tricks."

She gave Ringo sad eyes. And wibbled.

"Hey!" Ringo pointed accusatively at Kathy. "None of that, you cheater!"

Like that was going to dissuade Kathy at all.

Kathy took in one long, quavering breath. "I guess..." she said sadly. "If you just want me to be sad."
