Koreoke, Washington DC, Saturday Night
Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy and Dante, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!
Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.
Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!
[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

Re: Sing!
"Because I'm so nice, I'm going to go easy tonight." She shot Kathy a glance. "I wouldn't want to show you up on your birthday, you know?"

"No, that certainly doesn't ring a bell."

And 'everything' didn't count.

"I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation..."
Toto's Africa was totally a Christmas song and Kathy would fight you over it.
Re: Sing!
"I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"..."
He gestured for her. CHORUS, KATHY. You couldn't miss the chorus!
Re: Sing!
...She might end up fighting him over the idea that she might not be right there with the chorus, belting it out on cue.
"It's gonna take a lot to take me away from yooooooooooooooooou
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever dooooooooooooooooooooo!"
This song was so great. Take it Dante!
Re: Sing!
"I bless the raaaaains down in Africa," he bellowed, pumping his fist up into the air and fake-closing his eyes as he dropped his head back. "Gonna take some time to do the things we never haaaAAAAAAaaad!
Re: Sing!
"Ahahaha - wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become...
Yeah, she was singing the whole verse. No regrets.

He pulled up the hood on his kigu and even struck a dramatic pose as the music started. Those who knew their pop classics would surely recognize the song by the intro. The rest might catch on with Ezra's sultry delivery of the opening lines.
"Baby, can't you see, I'm calling; a guy like you should wear a warning --"
Re: Sing!
Re: Sing!
His voice was passable, but his sense of drama was on point, as were his moves, which meant he was commanding what little stage there was. And anyone in a fox kigu probably shouldn't have been exuding as much confidence as he was, but, this was Ezra. He could make eye contact with just about everyone present, one by one, and telegraph that this was somehow about exactly them. He could also make pulling his fox-eared hood back look vaguely pornographic.
And that was before he somehow just happened to end up practically straddling Kathy's lap. He needed something to do while the instrumental bridge was happening, and maybe it was like an extra birthday present? Sort of a little lap dance. Nothing that'd push the boundary too much with her boyfriends in attendance - in fact, he was technically not even touching her, since he wasn't on her lap! - but still.
Re: Sing!
Re: Sing!
Boy had some moves. Probably helped that he strategically undid a few extra buttons on his kigu, too.
"Intoxicate me now, with your lovin' now; I think I'm ready now."
And so, he was done. He bowed with a flourish.
Re: Sing!
From the expression on his face, the bartender was willing to add 'himself' to that list.

He had definitely taken his phone out. He was holding it up, filming Ezra while he mouthed along with the lyrics.
Re: Sing!
He also made sure to smirk in a vulpine fashion for the camera once he was finishing up his song. Complete with a fake-modest tug on his now slightly more open kigu as one side threatened to fall off his shoulder.
Re: Sing!
Which meant that when he lowered the phone, all he could do was clap.
And maybe wolf-whistle.
Maybe wolf-whistle a lot.
Re: Sing!
He bowed an extra time just for Dante.
"Was that punishment enough? Has my horrendous crime been paid for?"
