The Apartment Above Luke's, Thursday Evening

Kathy was still glowing from yesterday's museum trip with Anders and now tonight Dante was coming over for the evening, too. She appreciated the lengths they were going to make sure she didn't feel too lonely or lost while she was still adjusting to being back. She'd had a whole evening planned out as a thank you to Dante over it...

But then there had been puppies. She'd come in from her shower and decided to take a minute to refresh her Tumblr before drying off and getting dressed, and then she'd stumbled over a link for a pet adoption website that curated pictures of dogs that needed to be adopted from nearby shelters if you put in your zip code. Which Kathy, more fool her, had done.

And now was scrolling through picture after picture of adorable romping puppies and distinguished older dogs all looking for forever homes and who even knew what time it was anymore, there were puppies.

Dante, for one, was not expecting puppies when he showed up at her door a-knocking.

Of course, he was also not not expecting puppies. So the disappointment was likely to be little to non-existant.

He might have been expecting her to be, say, fully dressed for example, rather than in a bathrobe with a towel over her hair. Or dinner to be more than just a scattering of ingredients over the kitchen counter. And maybe for her expression to be a little more sultry hey, boyfriend, I've been waiting for you and a little less frazzled oh my god, boyfriend, you're here already how is it this late, ah!

On the other hand, this was Dante. Easygoing was kind of his thing.

"Uhhh, hi!" she said, opening the door to let him in. "You're..." She was going to say early, but the clock disagreed. "Right on time! Come on in!"

Dante made a surprised, amused noise at the sight of her. "Sorry, did I show up in the middle of something?" he teased.

"I just lost track of time," Kathy said, pulling him inside. "There were puppies on the internet."

"And now I know my place," Dante said, grinning as he let her pull him in.

"Considering I'm pretty sure I rate below the cats back in LC, I'm immune to feeling guilty," Kathy said, holding her face up for a kiss. "Already had to chase Blondie off my bed like three times."

"Blondie's the queen of wherever she sits, I got nothing to do with that," Dante said. He leaned down to catch her lips for a quick, but heartfelt, kiss.

"You know you encourage that behavior," Kathy murmured, smiling up at him. "Lachlan is a gentleman."

Kathy was chalking that up to her influence on his kittenhood.

"Lachlan leaves fur all over your clothes and you pretend you don't see it," Dante retorted.

"It could be anyone leaving that shade of kitty fur on my clothes, you don't know," Kathy said, her nose in the air. "I don't see why you have to blame him for it."

Kathy absolutely played favorites with the cats. But she was pretty sure Dante did, too, so all she was doing was evening things out.

"Because Blondie's blonde and he's not," Dante said, rolling his eyes. He poked her in the side.

"Yeah, but I bet she saves his fur and puts it on my stuff deliberately just to be a brat," Kathy said with a little squeal. "We know who she gets it from, too."

"Anders?" Dante said brightly. "You?"

"That's some gross slander and I won't have it in my house," Kathy informed him.

She was a very intimidating sight, barefoot in her terrycloth robe and towel that was slowly losing its battle with gravity.

"Oh, sorry," Dante said, holding up his hands. "Kathy, don't hurt me!"

"Better," she sniffed, giving him a sharp nod. The towel on her head wobbled. "Fuckin' trying to sass me in my own house. Rude."

"I'll ooh and aah about how nice it is during the grand tour, to make up for it," Dante promised, dropping his hands with a laugh.

"You'd better, or the grand tour is ending with you out on the front stoop," Kathy declared, which wasn't even a thing in this apartment, but she wasn't going to let that stop her anyway. "And you can stay there, looking sad and pathetic, until I feel merciful and let you back in."

"I gotta go find my boombox and play 'Say Anything' for you?" Dante joked.

"Don't make promises you won't keep," Kathy said, dropping down onto the couch. "That would be awesome."

"You watched way too many 80s flicks in your life," said the pot.

"I'm sorry, who named his guns Harry and Sally?" Kathy snorted. "You're just mad that I'd think about running away with a young John Cusack before you could."

"He's way old now, anyway," Dante sniffed.

"Enh, you'd go for an older guy in the right circumstances," Kathy decided. "Don't know what they are right now, but you totally would."

"Oh, c'mon," Dante said, poking her. "Old people are gross."
