The Preserve, Wednesday

For the second time in a week, Kathy had to get out of the house. This time, it was because she'd woken up cuddling a Tupperware container of room temperature quesadillas made with animal brain matter. That brought all of yesterday screeching back and Kathy bolted, unable to stay in the same room, the same house as...that. Her mouth tasted horrible (but was there some part of her that liked it?) and the smell was--well, it smelled like spices and salsa and that somehow made it worse.

Thank goodness Dante had shut her up in her room yesterday. Not only did he prevent her from doing anything worse, it meant she didn't have to try to crawl over anyone in her rush to get out of the house. She burst through the front door, leaving it wide open, a blur of bare feet and yellow ducky pajamas. She had neither coat nor keys nor shoes nor phone, just a mindless need to run, to escape that didn't let up until she was somewhere deep in the preserve.

She was just going to...stay there for a while. Yeah. Raven was always talking about how comfortable it was out here, how spending time in trees was good for her. Maybe she'd try that for awhile.
