Room 508, Sunday Afternoon

Today had been declared a lazy day. Kathy didn't have them often, but even she needed some downtime occasionally. Other than going to take a shower--after which she'd changed right back into a pair of pajamas--she hadn't left the room. Right now she was sprawled across her bed watching Netflix on her laptop because going all the way to the common room was just too far. Eventually she'd end up getting hungry enough that snacks would no longer suffice and she'd have to figure out a food plan, which would probably involve pants, ugh, but she was determined to get as much lounging in as possible before that.

Overall, this was a pretty good day. Maybe she should be lazy more often.

"Yeah, but--" And then she got a pillow to the side of the head, so unexpected she couldn't even dodge. She gaped at him in surprise for a moment, then swung her pillow back at him. "It is on!"

"You're messing with the wrong mage," Anders informed her, ducking under her swing and aiming his own pillow at her knees. "I was pillow fight champion of the junior apprentices."

"Are you really smack talking a superhero?" Kathy asked, doing a backwards somersault on her bed to get her knees--and the rest of her--out of range. "You have no idea what you're in for, sweetheart!"

She stood up on her bed and did a front flip off of it, swatting at Anders as she dove past him.

"I'll smacktalk anybody," Anders answered, which would have sounded more threatening if it hadn't been broken by a giggle in the middle. "You think you should get out of it because you bounce all over the place?"

"Of course not!" Kathy retorted, landing and spinning back around to face him. "I think I should get out of it because how hard I'll spank you any time you step to me."

"I'm sorry, you think you'll spank me?" Anders replied, amused by the unfamiliar idiom. "What would you do if you were really upset, put me to bed with no dessert?"

Kathy burst out laughing, presenting a free target while she was doubled-over. "Yes, exactly!" she said. "Don't make me ground you from the TV while I'm at it!"

Anders bopped her on the head with his pillow, lightly.

"Not that," he said. "Anything but taking away the TV, or I'll hold my breath until I turn blue."

"And what a lovely shade that will be," Kathy told him. "You'll look good in blue and once you pass out you'll start breathing again. No sympathy. And no TV."

So threatening! Especially since she was swinging her pillow at him again, this time aiming for his shoulders.

"Mean," Anders said, dancing away from the blow after it brushed into his shoulders. "Why are you so mean to me, Kathy?"

"It's for your own good," Kathy informed him. "Maybe if you knew how to behave, I wouldn't have to chastise you so often."

"I'm not the one who started throwing pillows at people because I disagreed with them," Anders pointed out reasonably. "You don't have any manners either."

"Yes, but I'm older," Kathy pointed out, which never actually worked with Sarah, but maybe it would here. "That means I'm in charge."

"Age is just a number. I'm taller, so I'm obviously in charge," Anders replied. Which didn't seem likely to work either, but they were sort of outside the realm of logic at this point.

They'd merrily waved to it as they'd gone zooming by.

"Height is just a quirk of genetics," Kathy declared. "That's no basis for a system of government! I get better grades so I'm in charge."

"Your cultural bias is showing," argued Anders, who maybe had spent quite enough time on Tumblr. "We don't have grades in Thedas and I've never paid attention to mine here. If you're playing it that way, I should be in charge because I'm better at making elfroot potions. At least they actually help someone."

Kathy had to take a moment to beam at Anders for that one. Listen to him get his social justice on!

"Your desire to be in charge is rooted in your unconscious belief in the patriarchy!" she retorted, now just making things up whole cloth. "You feel the balance of power is yours by right simply because you're frightened by my agency! I'm in charge!"

Anders grinned back at Kathy's smile, boyish, though his smile dimmed as Kathy went on.

"Oh, come on," he said. "You're only saying that because I'm a man. It's sexist to assume I support a patriarchy, and, as penance, you should agree I'm in charge."

In charge of what, he wasn't even sure anymore. But definitely in charge of something.

And that something was super-important! You could tell, because they were arguing over it!

"I will never give in to my own oppression!" Which, you know, happened all the time when Anders was around. Really. Because of, uhh, all the oppression. And stuff. "I'm in charge because I reblogged the most recent kitten gif!"

Argue with that!

Whatever Anders had been going to say, it was lost in how hard he started to laugh at that.

"You win," he decided, sitting back down. "I'm not sure what you win, but you win. You're in charge."

"That's right, I am," Kathy said, smugly. "And therefore, umm, we..."

She was drawing a blank on what she should order them to do. Perhaps she wasn't cut out for the burden of power after all.

"...We should plan for when you're taking me out drinking," she decided, settling down next to him. "You promise and yet, here I remain, distressingly sober."

"I have been slacking, haven't I?" Anders mused. "Poor sober you. Would Wednesday or Thursday work?"

"It was like you didn't want to help me make terrible life choices or do things I'll regret the following morning," Kathy said, shaking her head sadly. "That's what I was starting to think, Anders, it's true."

She sniffled for extra effect before saying, "Either day works for me. Thursday?"

"It's like I'm not your friend at all," Anders said, pulling a mournful face. "How could I fail you like this?"

In a more normal tone, he continued, "All right. Thursday then. Caritas, or do you want to brave the mainland?"

"Mainland," Kathy decided after a moment's thought. "Fewer squirrels to worry about and I won't feel bad if it goes to SP. If I'm going to make terrible life choices, I'd like to do it where the only witnesses are strangers!"
