Last year, Dante had surprised them all but good with his Roseapalooza and decision to make breakfast. Kathy wasn't quite that crazy - that was reserved for Christmas, with minor bleedthrough for Thanksgiving - but she wasn't going to let this year go without a return volley.

Which meant baking. In a tiny red pinup apron over never-you-mind and heels definitely not intended for use in the kitchen, but still...baking. And, you know, a bit of tempering and molding chocolate, too. But by that afternoon, she had a two dozen roses for Dante and two dozen roses for Anders.

And a couple extra each for herself because she wasn't stupid thank you. She loved them, but the boys were bad at sharing.

Food, anyway.

"So you're making me work for it," Anders said, and reached out to put his hands in hers before drawing her closer. "Can't say I mind too much..."

"It's never work if you love what you do," Kathy teased, bringing her free hand up to cup his cheek. "And I know I love you."

And then her mouth met his.

"And I love you," Anders returned, pressing his body into hers as their lips came together.

She tasted sweet, like she'd been tasting as she baked, or maybe it was just her. She tasted like home.

She was home and nothing and no one - not even her - was gonna take her away from these two ever again.

"Mmm," she murmured in her throat, sighing into the kiss. Drawing it out, long and sweet.

Never got old. Not even a little bit.

"Mmm-hmm," Anders agreed, and drew apart just long enough for a breath before going in for another kiss. "Happy Valentine's day, darling."

"Happy Valentine's Day, love," Kathy said with a warm smile, a soft flush staining her cheeks. "Hungry? I made you something."

"Starving," Anders agreed, smiling back with a similar blush of his own. "I can't wait to see what you're up to."

"I made you flowers!" Kathy said, handing him a bouquet of honey-apple roses on wooden skewers. "A few dozen, so I hope you like 'em."

Anders blinked at the roses, then back at Kathy. "You made these?" he said, genuinely touched. "It must have taken hours."

"You're worth a little extra effort every now and again," Kathy said, beaming at him. "So I was glad to."

"Well, I appreciate it," Anders said, reaching to touch her hair. "Thank you. I have something for you, too, but I was going to wait until later."

"Ooooh?" Kathy asked, eyes sparkling. "Why the long wait?"

"What, do you want me to be hungry?" Anders asked, making big eyes at her as he broke a "petal" off one of the roses. "I thought I could at least eat first..."

"Who am I to stand between you and a meal?" Kathy asked, fingers tangling in the waves at the nape of his neck. "You eat as much as you want."

"Mmm, I could say something filthy," Anders said, around a mouthful of apple and cinnamon. "But isn't it rude to talk with your mouth full?"

Kathy laughed at him, pleased he was enjoying his Valentine's Day treat. "And we are very concerned with manners in this house," she agreed.
