Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy ~~and Dante~~, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!

Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.

Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!

[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

"There's no sense in denying what's obvious, darling," Kathy said, reaching out to lace her fingers through his.

Ezra gave her fingers a squeeze, then brought her hand up briefly to press a quick kiss against her knuckles. "You are getting very wise in your old age, dumpling."

Kathy brushed her thumb over his lips, marveling again at how soft they were.

Ugh. How unfair. She would add it to the list of Things Unfair About Ez.

"I figured it had to kick in sometime,," Kathy said wryly.

'Unfair' was probably one of his main ingredients.

He smiled crookedly, then let their hands drop again. "Better late than never," he joked.

"You don't think all this wisdom's gonna turn me into a stodgy old lady, do you?" she asked. "Because that just sounds unfun."

Kathy, you were already the mom friend of the group, c'mon.

Ezra decided the best response to that was to look mock scandalized. Aghast, even.

"Kathy Li, you could never be 'stodgy."

"Your faith in me warms my heart," Kathy said, placing her hands over her chest. "Bless you, Ez."

Everyone kepts touching his chest. Was it because he'd chosen to leave it partly exposed?

He wasnt complaining, whatever the reason.

"Oh, blessed, that's definitely me."

You couldn't put something that pretty out there and then not expect people not to appreciate it.

"In so many, many ways," Kathy assured him. "So what did you do for your birthday, anyway?"

"Not much," Ezra shrugged. "A feast with Ava and Lock, after work."

"Oooh a feast," Kathy said. She pulled her chair closer so she could half-lounge on Ez. He was comfortable, but more than that, she liked the physical contact. "Did Lock make it? Or did you go out?"

"Lock and Ava made some of it," Ezra said, casually draping an arm around her. "Some was store-bought. All was delicious."

"I don't think anyone dares serve you food that's anything but," Kathy teased. "I quail at the very thought."

"Good," he decided as he gave her a little squeeze. "I deserve the best. It's a simple fact of life!"

"I don't know why I feed into this," Kathy said mournfully, shaking her head. "I really shouldn't. And yet..."

"Because you know it's the right thing to do."

He would think that.

"And here I was just thinking it was because I'm a soft touch," Kathy said thoughtfully.

Ezra gave a light shrug and asked, brightly, "Why not both?"

"Because," Kathy said, trying to steal a chunk of onion off his plate, "what if I think I deserve the best instead, huh?"

Ahahahaaha sure Kathy.

Ezra pretended not to notice. Consider it an extra birthday gift.

"I can't help with that."

Did Ezra even eat vegetables?

"You're not even gonna share?" Kathy asked. "On my birthday?"

It was the principle of the thing! If it was on his plate, it was his, regardless of whether he planned to eat it.

"Yes," he said, "because giving in just because it's the anniversary of your birth would teach you the wrong thing."

"I think that 'sometimes, Kathy deserves the best things, too' is a fine lesson to learn on my birthday," Kathy declared, chin up.

Ezra shrugged, then raised one hand to make the international gesture for 'ehhh'.

Because being an ass was fun.

"I should bite you for brattiness," Kathy declared.

And she would, if she could think of a single place to bite him that wouldn't be hot.
