Sure, some people were busy fighting rampaging snow monsters and stuff today. But for those who were friends with Kathy ~~and Dante~~, they had another option available to them: Kathy's 21st birthday party!

Their venue for the evening was Koreoke, a Korean barbeque restaurant that doubled as a karaoke bar. Kathy had rented out the back room for her party, which included three long barbeque tables, a stage with up to four microphones (in case of boy bands and group numbers), and a bartender along the far wall to serve drinks all night until last call.

Because if turning twenty-one wasn't a good reason to stuff yourself full of grilled meat (well, veggies and tofu in Kathy's case), get drunk, and sing your heart out to the largest selection of karaoke tracks Kathy had ever seen in one place, then what was?!

[Up VERY early for SP because holidays are a THING (and so are BDEs). Open to pretty much anyone who is/was Kathy's friend (or Dante's friends that Kathy also knows)!]

"Boyfriend one," Eddie said, mostly to himself. "Eddie Brock. Nice to meetcha."

"Yeah, I'm the prettier one," Dante said brightly. (That was a lie, he thought Anders was prettier.) "I'm Dante. Used to work at Groovy Tunes, but I moved a couple months back. You deal with all the snow shit last week?"

"A little bit. I mean. People seemed to have it figured out." You were such a shitty superhero, Eddie. "There was something about a freeze ray and that shit's just a little above ny pay grade, ya know?"

"Yeah, I like to get out of the way when the science types start talking," Dante said. "Sounds crazy, though."

"Yeah,I'm kinda... adjusting expectations there," Eddie said with a vague little hand motion to illustrate the process.

"There's always that unless you're from somewhere, like, really fucked up," Dante mused. "At least the snow sounded, like, survivable? But not an easy intro."

"Just San Francisco," he joked. "But nah, I also got that when I started work and it was run by deer."

Dante squinted. "Where's that?"

"Local newspaper. Yeah, it exists." Heading that one off at the pass.

"Huh, cool," Dante said, tilting his head. "Guess you've got plenty to write about on the island."

"Yeah, me, the deer, and the terrifying teenager who just showed up and demanded a job." Which he gave her. Out of fear.

Dante let out a soft laugh. "Yeaaah, welcome to Fandom," he said, "Where weird shit shows up at your doorstep, teenagers walk outta your house with a job that pays their rent for the next ten years, and freeze ray shit happens."

"But they cover dental, so it's not the worst job I've had."

Dental was a big concern for him these days.

"See, you've got the right mindset," Dante said cheerfully. "Most of the shit that happens on the island isn't really that bad, anyway."

Eddie was just the meat suit side of things. Which probably didn't help him out much.

"Yeah? The kid thing mostly sucked for my credit score."

"Time to buy a lot of random shit and then actually pay your bills?" Dante said. "Rent's barely anything back there."

See, that was too smart for Eddie.

"Yeah, weirdest housing market I've ever seen." And he'd lived in two major cities!

"Probably because nobody halfway normal wants to live there," said Dante, the philosopher.
